Student Success Act Reforms NCLB To Strengthen Parental and Local Control Over Education Terry Says

WASHINGTON – The House of Representatives today voted to approve the Student Success Act (H.R. 5) that reauthorizes the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) currently known as No Child Left Behind by a vote of 221-207. Representative Lee Terry (R-NE) voted in favor of the bill.

H.R. 5 specifically repeals the Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) standards from the Elementary and Secondary Education Act. As part of No Child Left Behind (NCLB), the AYP requires 100 percent of students test at or above grade …
